What is Somatics?

In the 1970’s, movement therapist Thomas Hanna coined the term Somatics to describe a number of techniques that helped people increase bodily awareness through a combination of movement and relaxation. Somatics has now become an important part of science, research, health, and healing.

Bringing awareness to our movements, relaxation, and meditation helps us to strengthen the mind-body connection, allowing us to become present, and by slowing our movements we begin to slow down our overactive minds.

This weeks Somatic Adventure classes we will learn to become aware of our inner experience as we focus on small, slow steps to bring awareness to our body with the lens of curiosity without judgement.

“Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going inside ourselves.”
