Casey enjoying a Campari Spritz at an outside cafe in Venice, Italy!

Spritz Olive Juice (I LUV you)…Let me count theee ways…So…ya..I’m TOTALLY in LUV with the spritz. How could I not? Bitter Liqueur (Campari is my FAV) with some bubbly!!

My first trip to Venice (and outta the country since the pandemic) was this September. If ya have ever been to Italy…then..yeah…ya know all bout the Spritz LUV or maybe obsession??!!

My LUV/obsession is full of inspiration! I created a stop motion, got ya a recipe, and have all the Gluten Free down-low all bout the Spritz!! Saluti!! Or Živjeli!!! (More details on my wild adventure in Croatian coming soon)

Stop Motion

Gluten Free Spritz Down-Low

Prosecco (sparkling wine) and sparkling water (carbonated water) are naturally gluten free.

Bitter liqueurs can be made from a neutral grain spirit with herbs added, which means it can be made from wheat but through distillation gluten can be removed. This doesn’t mean that celiac or gluten sensitive people won’t have any reactions to these spirits.

For instance, I can only have a little bit of Scotch or Bourbon (Boulevardier is my FAV drink, also made with Campari!) before I begin to have my gluten symptoms. But I’ve never had a sensitivity to any bitter liqueurs.

GLUTEN FREE BITTER LIQUEURS:

Aperol: NOT made from Grain is 100% gluten free!

Campari (my FAV!): I sent a DM to Campari, they told me that Campari IS Gluten Free AND Vegan!

Select: I couldn’t find out either way. They never got back to me. But I have never had any symptoms from drinking Select.

Cynar: I couldn’t find out either way. They never got back to me either. But I have never had any symptoms from drinking Cynar.

Celiac.com has Great info on what spirits/beers/distillates are Gluten Free along with other helpful info.

Spritz Recipe

Spritz Recipe hand written on red paper: 3oz Prosecco, 2oz Bitter Liqueur, 1oz Sparkling Water. Put all ingredients in wine glass, add few ice cubes, garnish with orange slice & skewered green olive. Enjoy and think of Italy!

Steve The Bartender has some fun history bout spritz and says that the local Italian bartenders as strongly against serving a spritz with a skewered olive. I STRONGLY disagree but I’m not Italian but I am a punk so I say SKEWER THE OLIVES!

Black knot in brown wood table, the knot is shaped like a heart.

Ya think I’d finish this post without a heart photo?

NO WAY!

This heart was captured while in Venice…much like my own!!!

Thanks for reading.
