With iconic members like John Goddard, I thought it would be an impossibility that I would EVER speak on its honorable stage. Yet, I hoped. I wished. I dreamt. And then something amazing happened. I….yes, me….was asked to speak at The Adventurers’ Club of Los Angeles.
(Read about my very first visit to the Club and when I befriended Bo Keeley, Executive Hobo)
Dinner, drinks, and social hour with the club members. I began to feel like I was fitting in, that these were my people!
Drinks with new friends at the self serve Tiki Bar with Kim, the Bob Mob and of course….James and the Shrunken Head.
When I was exploring the club, I accidentally knocked down the “Ladies Night” sign (NO I was NOT trying to break it!!!). In the middle of my cover up, a few of the club secrets were revealed!!
Before taking to the stage, I excused myself and stepped into the ladies room. This is where I came across another club gem! An old school lady mirror to assist me with all my primping needs.
Stepping up to the MIKE!
Tap dancing, knife fighting, space flying, deep sea exploring pioneers filled the rows of chairs. I had the entire rooms attention!
My heart was beating so fast it was bout to leap outta my chest. I was full of fear and did everything I could to stay focused.
The crowd spewed intimidation and, to my amazement, excitement. They were enjoying the stories of a fellow adventurer. And that adventurer was ME!
Afterwards, I received an enthusiastic applause, lots of great questions, and affirmation that I was now one of them!!
I was presented with two plaques in honor of my talk. They have become constant reminders of what happens when the impossible becomes the possible!
So don’t stop reaching, cause rad things DO happen and dreams DO come true!!!
This post is dedicated to my friend and ACLA member Shane Berry. You will be remembered, you will be missed, and you will continue to inspire. May you rest in peace my friend.
